This is one of Darrian’s illustrations for my Poem Pods, a new feature for children that will be coming to my site this summer. Darrian first drew the image as an ink drawing in a bound sketch book.
When I told him I needed a digital image, literally as I was talking with him, he downloaded a free Illustrator app on his phone. He began messing around with it, using a stylus to draw.
Darrian is 18 and tech savvy and so eager to be taking part in this project!
This is the image he sent me about a week after he started working in Illustrator. And this is my poem that goes with it:
String of Pearls
Two boys, two girls,
Lined up on the dock.
That one there—she’s
The cream of the crop.
Look at her,
With her head on her pal.
That’s my Sally.
She’s some great gal.
Please share!
Oh, this is going to be great! You are going to have so much fun with this! Nice job on the art work by your friend, too!
Glad you liked it. They are fun little ditties! And my grandson will help me narrate these, and he’s a riot. (He’s 11.) We’ll also have “guest speakers.” Ha ha. Thank you!
