So, Jacques and I did get a little smitten with Adriene as we did her 30 Day Yoga Challenge. Jacques perhaps more than I.
One morning, he perused many of Adriene’s videos and news clips in which she was featured. He found a video we both loved, in which Adriene teaches how to make authentic chai tea.
I’m a chai addict. I consumed so much chai over the past few years that it literally raised my blood pressure, and I had to cut back to one cup a day this winter. I was excited to know how to make our very own, a little lower-caf, spicy, yummy version!
Gathering one ingredient—cardamom seed—was the only challenge. Steve’s son, living near Cambridge, Massachusetts, found it in an ethic shop near his home and bought us two large bags, in bulk, that were far cheaper than buying the small jars and it was authentic! We picked them up on Easter, when we visited.
That afternoon, we made our first batch. Delicious!
Here is the recipe; we have added more of the spices, but remember it’s Adriene’s creation!
Chai
25 peppercorns
15-20 whole cloves
3-5 cinnamon sticks
30 cardamom seeds
8 thick slices of fresh ginger
Two black tea bags
5 quarts water
Fill a five-quart pan with water. Add all the ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer for about an hour. Strain, and enjoy!
